After action reports from first edition / Our First Game
« on: January 09, 2007, 10:24:53 AM »
Hi there,

We made some pictures on our first game. It ended in a Allied victory in Spring 1942 (Axis 27 VP)
We also made some mistakes with vichy france on our surrender turn (Some more pp for germany).
I'm sorry we didn't cared much about how the pictures are on our first game. Also please don't care about the camera date :P (it was kinda buggy)

We will make it better on our second game for sure.

Some pictures

Rules questions from first edition / Re: Question Round 3
« on: December 28, 2006, 04:51:46 AM »
Thats a cool thing Yoper.  ;D
------------------------------------

Okay Mark / John

i will do some examples and you say me how they work please :)

Example:

Lets say a german submarine and a battleship attacking a convoy zone and both decide to do strategic combat. Britain has a cruiser and a Sub for defense.

I place both german units on the strategic combat chart and they do strategic damage. Then the britain cruiser rolls a 3 and the sub a 2.

Q1:Since both a surface ship and a submarine attack what values do i use for the cruiser (3) or (1)?

Q2: Do Subs also have suprise attacks on the strategic combat chart?

Q3: How does Naval combat works with Submarines on the Naval combat chart.
Lets say the defender has a sub and the attacker has a cruiser and destroyer.

Can the attacking cruiser hit the submarine on the normal naval combat chart? Or can only destroyer / air
units / defending cruiser / subs hit the defending submarine on both charts.

Thanks
Dominik

After looking at the strategic naval warfare chart i'm sorry.. i have no clue how strategic combat works with mixed groups of naval ships (subs and other surface units that attack convoys)

It is only said that defending ships can hit with normal combat values if surface naval units attack.

The rules give no rolling example for mixed groups.
I don't even know how to set up the units when mixed groups attack/defend, because it seems the values on the strategic board are only printed for subs only attacks? Or do i think wrong?

There is also no example which ships actual can hit subs on normal naval combat chart.

I hope you can provide me some detailed rolling examples for both please.

Another thing.
Maybe it's because of gameplay but shouldn't the italian transports be able to ignore the blue line in mediterran. Because i somehow doubt they wouldn't be able to redeploy their troops in ethopia while beeing neutral. But that is just a suggestion

Thanks Dominik

Thanks John,

New Question

Q: Is Tobruk under italian control from the beginning?

Q: Some things i dont like in the manual is that special information about some  type of units are very well hidden.

Example:  Cruisers . can defend against subs but not attack subs
while in the naval combat decription there is no word about that.
Only  that battleships can't damage subs.

Q: What types of units can a) Attack subs and b) defend against subs at all?

Can Carrier attack / defend against subs?  Can Aircraft do damage on Subs .. and so on.

Thanks alot
Dominik

You missed one Mark :)

Q: Strategic Damage on Convoys or Territories

Let's say the Axis do 3 convoy damage to britain on the first turn..
Do you reduce the Production Points from the "Start Production Value" (So Britain has 37pp on turn 1 to buy units with) or does Britain get just less production points on the end of the allied turn?
Or better say
Does strategic damage reduce the Income Track for next collect or the actual PP the player has on the hand"

-------------------------------------------

About the air units retreat .
Page 25
Defending air units can retreat a maximum of half their normal movement?
Is this only for carrier planes?

Thank you Mark for answering all the question. It helps alot.

But one other thing.
I have two Army and Air Battle Charts but only one Naval and Strategic Naval Warfare Chart. Just wondered is this normal?

It's np will try to print them if not. Just asking

Thank you
Dominik

Rules questions from first edition / Question Round 3

Sorry for so many question..but there are still some things i don't get right.
I hope they are the last for the first game tho.

Q: "Strategic Attacks"
Why do defending Bombers particate Strategic attacks at all?

Q: Stages of Ground Combat
Where to begin rolling the dices.. (with the tanks or the infantry?)

Q: Transports "Unescorted transports may only move into sea zones that are controlled by the owning player"
Does this include allied sea zones? And what about Soviet sea zones

Q: Strategic Redeployment for Ships
"When moving strategically , a naval unit can only move through sea zones
that are under friendly ownership and control at the beginning of the movement phase

I don't understand this at all because on page 14 sea zone controlling is
   changes instantly.

Transports may only move into enemy controlled sea zones if accompanied by surface combat naval unit or if a surface combat unit has moved through the sea zone prior to the transport's movement during the same movement phase

So this is allowed but strategic movement not?

Q: Does AA have only 3 shots during the whole fight over 3 for every combat round?

Q:On pages 17 air defensive support is decribed , where air units can move from adjacent territories/sea zones can come for support.
But on retreating they can fly back their full range ? Not only 1 ?

Q: Defending air units on sea zones fights only have a half of their maximum range for retreating. (is this correct?)

Q: Soviet units cannot attack with Chinese units but they can occupy the same territory if Japan is invading Western China / Mongolia or Tibet? What happens if they are attacked. Do they defend together?

Q: What zones belong to western china?

Q: Can Chinese units move freely through Tibet and Mongolia from the beginning? Or only when Tibet and Mongolia are "at war"

Sorry for so many question
