CONVENTIONS
« on: November 05, 2006, 01:13:19 PM »
Which conventions are on the agenda for 2007? I have to turn in my vacation schedule in December 2006 for the 1st 4 months (JAN-APR) of 2007. This could be the format where some extra playing can be accomplished. I'm looking at  LITTLE WARS in Chicago during April, 2007. Any visitors?

I plan on definately being at Origins and GenCon Indy again - I have to pick my Cons carefully or the 'Missus' can get upset  ;)

I'll try t make it to a few of the smaller New England Cons too - like Havoc in Massachussets.  Thinking about the WBC - but that a lot in the space of about a month.

cheers,
Mark

Origins- July 5-8, 2007

WBC-  July 31 to Aug. 5, 2007

Gen Con Indy- August 16-19, 2007

I can go to Origins because it normally coincides with the 4th of July weekend.  My wife and girls hang out with the in-laws.  I catch up with them on the Sunday night for fireworks.

I then make my real gaming call to go to WBC.  I GM the Axis & Allies event there and play in some other tourneys.  I won the History of the World event last year.

After that kind of gaming adventure, I can't make it to GCI.  Not enough "Honey-Do" points in a year for that kind of turn around.  I was able to stop in on the Saturday morning in 2005 only because we were visiting friends in Indy.

I can only get away with the WBC convention and its length because my wife is a teacher.  If she actually had to go into school during that time, I wouldn't be going out to Lancaster, PA.

I'll put ORIGINS & GENCON INDY on my schedule along with the DIECON & ARCHON conventions held in St Louis and LITTLE WARS which is held in Chicago. These are the local CONS that have pretty good attendance. Still have to wait on the vacation approvals though.

It really looks like you want me to try out my theory on invading Japan at one of these conventions?

Got the vacation schedule back for the 1st 4 months of 2007 and only half of what I requested was approved. If that's an indicator of what may happen for the last 8 months of the year then my attendance at conventions will be extremely limited and probably to just some local CONS in Missouri or Kansas for 2007. I can't see attending these larger CONS is worth my attention for just a part of Saturday and a part of Sunday. The only alternative left is the alternate work schedule and with what I just saw for the vacation schedule, I'm not holding my breath on those days being approved either. It may be awhile before the invasion of Japan occurs!

Only good news about vacation scheduling is the request has to be turned in at the end of this month, which is early by about 5 weeks. The alternate work schedule did return me to having Fridays off which helps. So GENCON looks like a good possibilty to join you. ORIGINS is still up in the air as July 4 is on a Wednesday, so that Thursday may be a problem.

What are the ID #s for your games at ORIGINS & GENCON? I'm flying in on the 4th & leaving the following Monday. I'll be driving to GENCON and should be there late Wed afternoon and leave about noon or 1 PM on Sundeay as it's a healthy 8 hour drive.
