Thanks John.

This message is for Yoper:

O Great One,  ;D would you please do as was just suggested?  I would be indebted to you and would even consider buying you a hamburger at GenConIndy.

Now, as I view the most recent after action report, I noticed a small card/sheet placed in north Africa detailing the morale level of Italy, and proximity to the entry level of the USA and USSR.  Will we be able to get a card/sheet like that or are on our own to make one up (which we could do anyway, but I thought I'd ask)?

And, btw, I drive a 1987 Mercedes diesel with 258K miles.  Mercedes Benz keeps developing better parts for their older models.  Kind of like some 'gamers I know.  Keep up the good work.

General Discussion / Re: Starting July 1940 Scenario
« on: April 29, 2007, 04:23:07 PM »
Maybe another way to approach this is to start at the beginning of June, 1940, instead of July, with the Anglo-French Alliance intact.  There is a lot of information on the OOB's for that date.Germany is in this all by itself and Italy doesn't come in until just a few days before the end of the German invasion of France (if at all).
And then events could follow with some slight alteration, like after Germany invades France, roll a 1d6 and on a roll of 1-2, Italy joins with Germany, and on a roll of 3-6, Italy remains neutral.  It does not enter the war for another 6 months or more.
Another idea:  If France is defeated and Vichy decides to join with the Germans against England, it only fights until the US enters the conflict.  At which time it declares itself neutral.

Just some thoughts on future possibilities.

Game Design / Re: Factories: Don't start with that?

Thanks sleipner.

I had wondered about that and as I'm a newbie to the WW2:  The Struggle . . . system, it may take awhile to "re-tool" some of the items/rules/reasonings in my head.

Another idea might be to be able to build a small factory over two turns, say a 3/3, and have that increase production by 1/2 the amount of a regular factory.

Smaller nations had that capability, but nothing on the scale or the major combatants, and none to compare with the USA.

Game Design / India produces more troops for Allies
« on: April 25, 2007, 05:19:49 PM »
As I reviewed manpower figures for the different belligerents in WW2, India raised about 1 soldier for every 2 raised in Great Britain, that is, India had 2 plus million to GB/s 4 plus million.  Could we give India the opportunity to produce 2 infantry units instead of just one periodically?

Game Design / Factories: Don't start with that?
« on: April 25, 2007, 05:17:12 PM »
Greetings!

As I peruse my rulebook, board, and pieces, I note that factories can be built and sometimes have been built prior to the start of a scenario.

Just a few thoughts:  No factories are set up to begin with or did I miss something?  The Axis and Allies game family has factories to begin with.  The Xeno game family has factories to begin with.  Jeff Stein's WW2:  The Wargame has large and small factories both to begin with and to build.  (Small factories cannot build battleships, carriers, and bombers.  Large factories can build anything in Jeff's game.)

Was it planned that way for simplicity or ease of game play or what?

What about a similar addition to WW2: The Struggle . . . ? --like small factories in Hungary, Czech-land, or Romania?  Just a thought.   ;D

Greetings!
I hope to make it to Gen Con Indy.  I'd really like to go to Historicon, but that may be a year or two away.
I am so glad to have WW2:TS4E&A, not only as it's a good game, but it provides me a platform for a lot of different ideas I've had re:  WW2 wargames/simulations over the years.  I've got some miniature fuel barrels (from AnAM, I believe) and some houses from Monopoly to represent supply centers, and I anticipate putting them to use with WW2:TS4E&A as the engine to pull it along.  More to follow.

I guess starting this date presented a lot of variables which I've had in mind for a while.  France is no longer a major player.
England stands alone (-except for help from the US, which I think historically the Congress approved Lend Lease this month, July, 1940).
Is the Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarine, and Wermacht up to the task of Operation Sea Lion?
Italy is involved as they declared war on the Allies when they saw France was down to 8/9 of a 10 count.  But where will they go?  Eastern Europe is non-aligned and alliances are up for grabs for awhile.  What will the Brits do with France/Vichy and that navy?  Will DeGaulle prevail into having the French fight on despite the loss of their homeland?
In the Pacific, China and Japan are slugging it out and just what will the Japanese do?  Did Khalkin Gol (the 1939 Japanese-Soviet skirmish in Mongolia) really show them the difficulty of going north and west instead of south?

It's just another optional scenario.  Granted the amount of time is not that great, that is, if you are a "serious gamer/grognard," which I am.  Been playing wargames since my first AH purchases in 1964-5 (Midway and Stalingrad).   The enjoyment is in the playing (and possibly winning a time or two)!  And now, with WW2: The Struggle . . . I hope to find the opportunity to try somethings I've been wondering about.  A&A and World at War game systems were okay and good.  But now, with WW2: The Struggle . . . I really have a chance to "git 'er done."

Well, for a start, as I was doing some research on WW2 and learned that the possibility for the USA to go to war in Europe was planned for June 1943 according to the ABC-1 Conference in either 1940 or 1941 (date?).

And I learned that Hitler beat Stalin to the puch by about 2-4 weeks.  It seems Vuya Iusef was going to hit Adoph "but missed it by that much."

What if Germany and his Axis allies had not attacked the USSR in 1941 and gone in another direction?  And what if the USSR had attacked Germany and Rumania in 1941?

The possibilites boggle the mind.  ;D

P. S. Oh, and a brief word about the Frenchy's:  when France fell in 1940, it's navy and colonial military were intact.  They would have lost the ports, airfields, bases in Metropolitan France, but they could've used others from the British.

General Discussion / Starting July 1940 Scenario
« on: April 11, 2007, 09:18:57 AM »
Greetings!

I'm looking at starting/setting up a scenario which begins just after the fall of France in June, 1940.  I've got several options in mind:

1.  Metropolitan France is overrun but continues the fight with the navy and the armies in the colonies.

2.  France falls and Vichy France is born.  The French Fleet can go one of three ways--Allied, Neutral, or (Sacre Bleu!) Axis.

With the latter scenario, there are only 4 (5) combatants:  Germany/Italy vs. UK and China vs. Japan.  It will cause things to be narrowed down a bit with some other potential opportunities.  (Germany traded with China until the late '30's until Hitler told the German businesses that to do so was upsetting to future potential ally Japan.  Maybe he could have been persuaded to change his mind.)

Any ideas you and others may have will be gratefully considered and acknowledged.

I noticed that the game came with two air, land, and sea combat sheets/boards.  There was only 1 strategic combat sheet/board.  Is that normal?

General Discussion / Re: Game pieces
« on: April 10, 2007, 04:33:26 PM »
Greetings!

Just recently got the game, and needless to say, I'm impressed.  You guys did a lot of work.  You beat me to doing some of the same things.

I just may adjust the rules a little for different theatres such as the ETO (European Theater of Operation) and the PTO (Pacific . . . ) by playing them separately, to represent a little more historical accuracy (and how is that possible you may ask?).  If you want to use the whole world which could've or did go to war, it is so hard to represent elements of the conflict on the same scale.  For instance, land units in the ETO fit at the corps level.  In the PTO, land units were usually at the division level if I'm not mistaken.  You guys did so well.  Larry Harris would be/is proud of you, I hope.

BUT, on to the point:  I've found White Ensign Models in England to have really good resin 1/700 scale multi-engined aircraft and 1/500 scale single engined aircraft. ;D  They really fit well with A&A, World at War,  and especially, WW2:  The Struggle . . . .  They are discontinuing their lines though. :'(  They still have the molds and do make new models if there is enough interest in producing them. :) I got some B-24's, Ju-52's and SM-84's that look like they were part of the original (sic) games.  I got a couple of 1/500 SBD's (for USMC Aviation) and they fit!

If you're interested, drop them a line.  I hope to be at GenCon-Indy to let those present take a gander.

Enden.
