Game Design / Re: Japanese Leaders
« on: December 22, 2015, 05:49:12 AM »
Hey guys,

i made some adjustments for my next test. i like to share with you.

- Added Admiral Lee for the U.S starting Spring 1942,  i know it is a bit (should be around summer \ autumn 1942 i reality) earlier but the U.S somehow lack on pacific vice admirals that fit.
- Added an additional Medium Bomber to the U.S 1939 & 1941 Setup. (To playtest the Doolittle raid we dicussed on another thread)

Adjusted the Japanese table.
- Removed the Removal of Yamaguchi as he is killed in Action. Like other leaders that are KIA and not removed i wanted to bring this one in line.
- Added Nishimura in Autumn 1943
- Added the Removal of Ozawa in Autumn 1944

Hello Mark.

I played only 1 game with the new leaders yet.
But that nothing new i always thought the japanesse Lack in naval leaders in Late game if you not Kamikaze with your ships.

i have to say i play with naval leaders Elimination If the whole Fleet is destroyed, then the Leader Is dead aswell.

After playing the pacific scenario once again.
I think going down from 5 to 3 autumn 1943 japanese naval leaders while the allied naval leaders go up from 4 to 6 in spring 1944 is a bit too harsh and unneeded.
Seeing your splited fleets with no chance of any reaction makes not that much fun.

i think sometimes a 4th leader can help. The best option would be Shōji Nishimura. (Stats  well.. not too high. Maybe 1-4-1-0 or 2-4-1-0)
Added in Autumn 1943.  Gives you a little more flexibility.
Nishimura was named the commander of the "Southern Force"in "Operation Sho-Go", aimed at a final and decisive naval battle against the United States Navy in the Philippines while Ozawa leaded the "Northern Force".

Only for proposal due lack of Paint Skill :-)

I would

- Lift all restrictions for germans on finish territories. There was no such restriction. The axis had free Hand. Anyways if you put too much troops into the North, you will miss them on other frontlines

- Keep the restrictions rules for the Finish Army. (Can only attack adjacent territories until leningrad is captured or russians attack finish territories)

- Remove the Mountain only Unit restriction on finnmark. We have it in no other Territory.

- Add a 5 Port to Kirkenses in Norway. (Finnmark)

The raid on Kirkenes and Petsamo (Operation EF) took place on 30 July 1941 during the Second World War. The British Fleet Air Arm launched this unsuccessful raid from the aircraft carriers HMS Victorious and Furious to inflict damage on merchant vessels owned by Germany and Finland and to show support for Britain's new ally, the Soviet Union.

- Add a rule that germany can rail 1 Unit each turn through sweden for free between
Germany - Finland - Norway  for free once Norway is axis occupied and Finland is Axis.

If either Oslo or Helsinki is no longer axis .. Sweden would no longer allow it.
Sweden allowed the Germans to use their railways to Transport Troops , ammo , heavy artillery , AA guns ,  communications and supply to norway & finland.

Game Design / Luftwaffe over Finland
« on: December 04, 2015, 09:01:25 PM »

This superb illustrated series books charts the rise and fall of the German Air Force from 1939 to 1945. Each volume makes use of over a hundred rare photographs, many of them taken by Luftwaffe personnel, to bring history to life and record both the men and the aircraft they flew. This title explores the German air war on the Northern Front. The Fins were active allies of the Germans in their war against the Soviets and allowed the Luftwaffe considerable freedom in its operations over Russia. Although conditions in the north were harsh, the Luftwaffe quickly adapted to the region and carried out a series of key operations over Russia between 1941 and 1944. The Luftwaffe over Finland presents the men and the aircraft used in this campaign, mostly from Luftflotte 1 and Luftflotte 5. The outstanding collection of photographs includes almost every type the Luftwaffe flew from Finland - from Ju 87 dive bombers and Focke Wulf Fw 190 fighters to coastal patrol and transport units - as well as some of the pilots.

Suggestion for Rule Change:
Can we please remove the german restriction of finland and norway (Finnmark)?
Having such a territory restriction rule makes no sense. We have it nowhere else at all and is pretty ahistorical.

The Finish rule itself affecting the finish troops is fine and pretty accurate.

1. Kirkenes (Finnmark) was one of the many bases for the German Kriegsmarine and the Airbase of the Luftwaffe's Jagdgeschwader 5.
So adding Kirkenes & a port would be useful too
2. During the Continuation War (1941-1944) the Germans had around 220,000 troops in Finland that were not Mountains Units only.
3. Germany was granted access to the finish airbases starting 1941. Hundreds of Luftwaffe planes were in Finnland for attack & defense missions.
And Bombers that attacked Leningrad & other bombing operations in russia flew to finish airbases to refuel.
4. The finish also had an airforce and had air superiority in 1941. Over the war the finish aircrafts shot down a lot of russian aircrafts with small losses.

If we don't want introduce finish aircrafts the Luftwaffe can symbolize that too. (They got a lot planes from Germany also for their own pilots)
The got also alot of german 88's for Air defense against russian Bombers attacking the capital

I would agree to George.

3 PP for Tripoli , Benghazi, Tobruk. similiar to the Japanese convoy zones.

If the italian own these territories you can bomb the convoy Zone.
