Alright - We're having one of our weekend marathons for the advanced game. Most of the experenced players feel as though the Axis have the advantage. I feel strongly that the Allies have the advantage but they need to be played more patiently. I am playing on team Allied with British Mike and Brian (DeathMachine). We are taking on Mark (the administrator of this site) and Gen Joe (who normally eats grass). We shall see... 8)

OK - so after quite a few marathon games and some playtesting we (Brian and I - Axis players/Mike and Joe - Allied players) are doing a paced game.

Well - our British player (both figuratively and literally) put together a nice presentation of the game. It is a bit allied-centric but that is expected... ;) ;D

Note the War Bride! She's not included with the standard game

Ok
Mark and I are preparing to face the CENTRAL U.S. reigning champs, the "Motor City Mortor Team ", on their home turf. They are playing the Allies.

Date: April 21st 2007

At this point Mark and I are still trying to workout the finer details of our grand Axis strategy which we humbly labeled "OPERATION DOMINATION", like who is playing what nationality... :o :P

P.S. We are willing to accept challenges from any part of the world, right Mark?

Strategy Tips / General Allied Strategy
« on: September 17, 2006, 06:51:47 AM »
Ok- So after years of playing this game, I have some thoughts/advice on a winning approach to the game for the Allies.

The Allies be a bit more difficult to play because of the need for cooperation (kind of the like the real war).

There seems to be a need to moderate the amount of early aggressiveness for the Brits. It is very tempting to lauch offensives before the US gets involved. More times than not, I have seen this lead to a depleted British army, when it was needed most to retake critical victory points. What usually happens is a premature amphibious invasion of the continent, which the Axis then react to and stall, or even worse, completely destroy, because because of a lack of reinforcements to hold the area on the following allied turn.

As far as Russia is concerned, as of this writing, I am still in favor of building offensive units early on. I have seen too many games where the Russians were pocketed and/or paralyzed because they had massive stack of infantry, AT Guns and forts, but had no offensive punch. I think a balance is needed.

By the way, just because I write these comments, it does not mean I will follow them...

Strategy Tips / Any ideas on how to start U Boat production early?
« on: June 22, 2006, 03:55:15 AM »
This is a question that has come up before. Starting U Boat production early almost forces the Brits on the defensive. We have all seen what damage a good U Boat campaign can do. Any ideas?

Strategy Tips / Can Germany take France building 2 Factories ASAP
« on: June 16, 2006, 10:26:45 AM »
This is one of the BIG questions. I have been experimenting with different scenarios and I think it is possible.

There certainly is an incentive to invest in the German War Machine early on to face Russia. If the 2 factories are started right away you break even by the time Barbarossa starts. The trick is avoiding an above average loss of units in the conquest of France because of the shortage of units.

Well - we may have to wait until Origins to find out.

Mark- I am ready for you!

Strategy Tips / Air units and Naval Combat Tactic (Trick)
« on: February 19, 2006, 03:13:34 AM »
I have been involved in some naval combats that involved air units and a little trick has been pulled on me several times (you'd think I would learn after the first time).
Â  I would attack a naval group that included one enemy carrier with one enemy fighter. We would go one complete combat round and I would not retreat BUT the enemy would retreat everything but the fighter, allowing the fighter to try to sink one of my expensive naval vessels (after surviving my AA fire) with out my naval vessels firing back on the enemy naval vessels.
Â  Now that I have written this, I should not fall prey to this tactic again...

Strategy Tips / What to do when you are out of supply
« on: February 18, 2006, 07:29:36 AM »
There have been a few instances where a large group of infantry and/or static forts have been surrounded or just plain cut out of supply. If everything is -1 on attack and defense then attacking infantry are basically trapped if there are not artillery or armor units with them because units with a "0" attack value can not move without some sort of unit with a positive attack value.
Â  Sometimes the use of air units is overlooked. Even though all of the infantry have a "0" attack value, they can move with a unit with a positive attack value.
Â  Although anything with an attack value of "0" can not support a unit that needs support, the support unit can still attack on a "1" (just like an unsupported unit in a regular battle).
Â  Â Let's say you have a pocket of 10 Infantry that are trapped and out of supply and you want to attempt a breakout. The territory that you attack has 3 enemy infantry. You could attempt a break out with the 10 infantry and, let's say, 2 bombers that are within range to attack. You, as the attacking player, would get to roll 2 "1s" for the bombers every turn of combat until either all 10 of your infantry have been hit or you take the territory.
