Rules questions from first edition / Re: Rule Clarifications

well sort of... they have to be within 1/2 their established range to provide DAS to defending ground forces. They return to any territory within 1/2 range.

I think a possible solution is to buy only the map and use all the plastics from a/a, attack! , table tactics ,etc and buy a few metal pieces which arent found anywhere else.

V2 rockets
Katushkas
a few biplanes
heavy tanks
fortification units

Just buy them from Brookhust hobbies.com. You dont have to look for anything more.

this is basically correct.. C and C IMO is the best all around value in terms of acuracy and utility, except like GHQ those soft barrels bent something terrible. For our purposes the Skytrex line which includes ships and armor has this problem solved as they see the problem and have corrected it with much harder metals, so the gun wont bent nearly as easily, but as in a harder metal if it gets bent it will weaken and if you keep getting them rebent it will brake off. This has not happened to me. The girth of the ships is a bit too wide, but its better for gaming (stability) plus it looks a bit better for aesthetics. GHQ ships are horrible (except for destroyers) they bend every which way and have too much of a hollow insides. C and C and the skytrex line are infinatly better. You have to buy some metals to round out the various pieces for this game. Only brookhurst has the tumbling dice planes (about 30 miles from me) and i got a load of them. Dont worry you dont need to look at them, just buy them they are perfect for a/a style games. On my site a have a number of pictures with tumbling dice planes. For naval i use NAVWAR which cost about 3.00 per, but they are very nice and i can get all the ww1 ships. They can be bought from scale specialites.com

WWII discussion forum / Re: Greatest Axis Blunder
« on: December 02, 2005, 06:50:27 AM »
Id have to say that any choice after the period of the fall of 1942 was largely outside of the European Axis grasp for eventual victory. The most favored period IMO or rather the closest to victory would be around August 1941, when in a number of theater's of war Germany was clearly dictating the course of the war. So that brings into play of your choices three namely: Dunkirk, Yugoslavia, and the change in assigning forces from army group central to help AGS envelop Kiev pocket (665,000 soviets prisoner).
Id rank Dunkirk as the biggest prize because it represented a sizable portion of the the British army and whose capture would have led to a different result in Africa, plus might have allowed Hitler to pursue Sealion, or at least have another "window of time" to fight England because they needed themselves time to retrain a new army..etc
The second most blunder would be losing those 6 weeks in the balkans, bailing out IL Duce for his own blunder in Greece and fighting in Yugoslavia.
The Kiev option lost some for Germany to be sure, but time was allready lost in the balkans, so id have to rank the Balkans higher on the blunder list.
The 1942 options were rather bleak for Germany because the strategic and economic reserves of the Soviet Union were having a toll on Hitlers armies, The whole goal was to win quick victory "on the cheap" without a full mobilization or "Total War" commitment back at home. This could only have been done in that first year, because the numbers were increasingly against the Reich after 1941.

Reviews / Deluxe Game Review
« on: November 01, 2005, 09:20:23 AM »
I have decided to write a review of the arrival of what i understand is the first game (complete) that was shipped yesterday. The package came in two huge boxes (one long box and a shorter rectangle sized box). I opened the "map" box first and noticed a long white tube in the center of alot of brown paper. The method of packaging cannot have been done better! Everything was totally perfect in every respect. The map is very colorful and the quality of the resolution if top notch. It is made of some type of plastic sheet that can be rolled up but not have any tendancy to roll back up as it was packaged. The second box containing all the "goodies" was also packed to perfection. It included a huge bag of plastic red and white chips and two bundles of stock play money to use for income distribution.
A large plastic evelope was provided containing all the player aids and ruleset along with a parts list of where the pieces come from and their part number information so you can order more if you like. The player aids are printed on high quality cardstock and again in high quality prints. The ruleset id also inside a plastic cover to protect it from greasy fingers.
The best part was the many white boxes of awesome pieces! Any piece junky like myself would be proud to own these high quality pieces. I had never known about skytrex miniatures , however i do own many bags of old glory miniatures which are cast from the same molds as the skytrex soldiers. Each of these white boxes had their own plastic container with a logo of the nation on top and filled to the brim with tons of tanks, artillery, planes, ships etc..
The important difference with skytrex miniatures is the turrets on every gun is nice and thick so the barrels dont droop like GHQ and C and C. This is very good when your gaming them with clumsey people who handle things too rough. In fact the Americans and Germans each need two full boxes in order to accomodate the quantity of pieces. Now i havent yet figured out the rules nor have i played a game, but i wanted to comment on the value that you recieve when you spend $1,015.00. You are getting much more in return on your investment then if you ordered or made your own set from scratch. I too know how much the printers charge for printing a 8x3 foot map . I even checked uot the prices from the skytrex site and they are consistent with what YOUR paying for them, except they are allready painted and come complete with nice wooden bases to keep the pieces nice and sturdy. Id place the value on the whole thing at about $1,450.00. One thing i forgot to mention was their was no dice included with the game and a few of the pieces (around 30)  lost their bases but i had glue handy so it was easy to fix. I forgot to mention that each piece box had a cushion on the bottom and a neat blue pad so when you play you can lay all the pieces on this felt so you know where everything is. I suggest everybody get one of these games as they got my stamp of approval to be sure.

I just got the goodies today! I havent had a chance to do more than look at the rules, but everything looks good! I cant wait to have an early Christmas tonight! I wonder if i should buy a tree to make it official.

If mark is going to Gen Con in Los Angeles i can fully support him with at least 3-4 players right off the bat.  I would like help him in any way i can to set up or demo the game... but i have to first recieve a copy of the rules or the game... Is my copy gonna be ready by then? or can i buy or get a copy of the rules so i can understand how the game is played so i can help demo it... Even though i make my own games i fully support any projects that others can come up within the same genre of any axis and allies game system.

BTW when you were in indy did you meet my friend Jeff Stein?
He was the guy with world war II: the Game.

"Italy rolled a "1" and left the war"

I hate when that happens. ;D ;D

Im not sure why they roll to stay in the game but it sounds funny when it happens to your opponent. Im one of the few who havent got the game and dont know how its played even though i have ordered a full copy. I cant wait for the pictures...

btw hows my game coming.. you got the pieces painted yet?
