Your global travel must be on the board. The 2 big ones are on my schedule. Time will tell.

Rules questions from first edition / Re: Poland Situation

The best the Polish fighter can do is shoot down any & all the German aircraft it can then have a mutually assured destruction (MAD) shot with the last aircraft. It's great when the Poles shoot down 2-4 aircraft. Drives the German player crazy!

This must be an interesting topic for the gamers as there are more hits on this item than many others.

Did any honorable ancestors give you some advice on how to run Japan and win the war?

Besides the real world costs to build were much less in time & money for the escort carriers, the US needed deck space in a hurry. Until Midway, the attrition rate for US carriers in the Pacific WAS a major worry!  The US Navy still needed to support its role in: anti-submarine/convoy duties--don't need many aircraft to make life miserable for subs,  the island hopping air/ground support roles where you needed air support with quick combat turn-around times, and to ferry aircraft/spare aircraft.  Remember Enterprise was ferrying aircraft toWake when Pearl Harbor was attacked.

Stay with the board game. It's more interesting & entertaining to play against carbon-based units than just another AI. The AI doesn't moan & groan & show dispair when the die rolls are not going in your favor.

Hope you guys have a good time.  You'll just have to do without me for ORIGINS as I messed up a knee and hip joint last weekend and get to visit the doctor again on Tuesday. Not looking forward to plan B as plan A hasn't done to well.  GENCON is on the schedule, but ORIGINS was too.

Game Design / miniature game pieces

GHQ just came out with a WWII German aircraft pack--GHQ stock# GEN19.  It consists of 4--CONDORS,  8--BV-138S,  8--DO-217S, 12--ARADOS, & 6--STUKAS.  These pieces are in 1/2400 scale.  XENO GAMES ALSO HAD A BOXED SET OF EXTRA MINIS, IT WAS OVER 200 PIECES OF VARIOUS PIECES & COUNTRIES.  NOT SURE HOW THE SCALE FROM GHQ WORKS WITH THIS GAME BUT THE XENO GAMES BOXED SET LOOK LIKE A&A SIZED PIECES.

Well, it looks like you'll just have to put up with me at GENCON & ORIGINS. I JUST CAN'T SEE ANY WAY AROUND THIS ACYIVITY.

We had 1 of the GENCON or ORIGINS convention games I participated in where Germany had suffered so many casualties in the 1st 2 turns the German player asked to start over.  Germany had gotten the normal territories it attacks both turns but didn't have the big stacks of pieces it normally has after the blitzkrieg of the 1st 2 turns.  So go ahead & do the what ifs when the actions favor the allies every so often. If politics & military actions had gone differently early in WWII this is how it MAY have happened.

Introduction / Re: Introduction
« on: October 08, 2007, 05:09:39 PM »
Just a thought for grouping some of the variations this game could have. 1 NAVAL POWER VARIATIONS. 2 AIR POWER VARIATIONS. 3 LAND POWER VARIATIONS.  4 VARIOUS  COMBINATION(S) OF 1 & 2 & 3.  5  A POLITICAL VARIATION. 6 A LOGISTICS VARIATION  7 OTHER.  The original Axis & Allies game was a lot of fun but had its limitations on strategy. Then someone came up with some variations like having artillery & destroyers. Then we got the Avalon Hills variations.   Lo & behold they were good games but good gamers asked for that 1 more step upward and we get "THE STRUGGLE FOR EUROPE & ASIA." Going 1 more step upward may be nice but you start hitting DETAILs which can bog the game down and make it more cumbersome. Let's keep it where the original  game can be played in 1 day.
