Hi Daniel - welcome to the forum!

The map is made out of a lightweight plastic - not condusive to lamination - we went for asthetics instead.  While the plastic is pretty durable, I play with mostly metal miniatures, so I use a couple sheets of 4'x3' plexiglass to lay over the map to prevent the metal from scratching the plastic.  I think others that play the game with metal pieces (as opposed the plastic pieces) have gone the same route with the plexiglass.

i went to the fabric store and bought a 5' wide and 10' long clear piece of vinyl. It adheres to the map and does not slide like the plexy-glass and it protects in case of spills, it is also possible to roll up the map and vinyl together and store in a map case.

Wow - this is a really good idea. . .how much did the vinyl cost you - and is it as clear as plexiglass?

It is just as clear as plexiglass and the cost was about 18-20
