As there are some new miniatures in the advanced game (heavy artillery, new fighters etc), will there be an updated list of where to buy the necessary metal miniatures if one chooses to go that route?
Title: Re: Advanced Struggle for Europe (ASfE) is AVAILABLE!
Post by: Mark on February 02, 2011, 09:49:57 AM
I will update the list and email it out to everyone.

The main difference is for Artillery / AT guns / AA guns.

The difference being - that since the miniatures are mounted on counters - the artillery from Skytrex do not work so well as their molds have solid bases - so they would cover up the combat values on the counter-bases.

So the cheap alternative is to use plastic Axis and Allies artillery and AA guns.  The expensive alternative is to use GHQ miniatures - and I'll put the list together.  I think the map and game look pretty nice - so getting the nice miniatures over time just add to it.

For all the planes you can possibly want use the Tumbling Dice 1/600th scale miniatures - you can get them at Brookhursthobbies.com.

I will put a list together - but part of the fun is to search skytrex, GHQ and brookhurst to find what you want.  For example - for the German panzer division - I like to use a mix of different Pzkw III and IV models - just to have some cool variety.  Since the combat values are printed on the counter-bases  - you are not confined to kust using one mold for your units.

I personally like using the same mold, it causes less confusion about which units are on the board.

My friend Jeremy of Field Marshall Games is working on bringing out a whole line of country specific units in plastic that are just amazing in their detail.  Also, there will be multiple molds for many of the base units so that one could use them for different levels of the different types.

Right now, Italy is just coming out as the first country, but he is working on all the major powers and some extras too.

http://www.fieldmarshalgames.com/field-marshal-combat-units.html

The colors of the powers will match those of the Combat Dice that he produces, which is close to the latest WotC A&A colors- but not always.  He will also be doing some black Germans eventually too.

So between all the older plastic pieces from the various MB, Hasbro/WotC, Xeno, etc. A&A games and some metal miniatures that you may have incorporated together for your games, you can mix in these new molds and cover virtually all your needs.

Yes. . . John is very proud of his map. . . .he had to go and take my beautiful black & white MS paint drawing and make it look respectable

A few weeks ago, I received the disk from John and I must say, I am completely satisfied with this great work. It is superb! After a long effort to print out the labels and remount the various armies, navies, and air forces, the result is unbelievable. The map is beautiful, the labels are colorful, and this is an excellent (perhaps the best) game on WWII. If you like strafing airfields, airborne assaults, U-boat campaigns, and much, much more, this is your game.

Good work to all who participated in this very worthy game. You have accomplished what other game designers attempt but never quite make it. Congrats!!!

I look forward to the Pacific version when its completed. Again, kudos to all!

Larry

Glad to hear it Larry! - Lots of input from many folks!! It was a group effort. Looking forward to Pacific!

It takes effort to put the game together but the playtime is worth it. We have spent much time coming up with strategies pregame - Implementation is sooo fun.

We have spent ALOT of time trying to break the game, closing loopholes, etc - and have made many adjustments to make this a great play!

1. what is the reason for +2 on a industrial complex in the corner?
2. Need a lexicon for the unit Base. For russia i dont sure for someone unit.
3. In the dics i dont find the domage pieces for ship or other.
4. What is the reason for the 3-4 finland infantry? vs another Bulgaria Roumania...
thanks

A "+2" means that the territory is worth 2 extra points to the original owning country while it is in their control. When an enemy occupies and collects  income - they only receive the main number and NOT the "+2" income

I am not sure what a lexicon is...

I will email the damaged units markers - I may have forget them - what is your email?

3-4 Finns  - Mark can explain... :)

I think that he is talking about an explanation of the unit bases.

What the different number and symbols stand for.
Title: Re: Advanced Struggle for Europe (ASfE) is AVAILABLE!
Post by: John D. on March 10, 2011, 02:09:51 AM
Ok - well if that is the case - for ground units - the number in the lower left corner is the number needed (or less) for a unit to score a hit on the offensive on a 12 sided die (in the Finn Infantry example - a "3" or less). The lower right hand corner is the defensive value (in the Finn Infantry example - a "4" or less).

for the Finn is the reason for the 3-4 value? thanks

Finnish infantry units were some of the best in the war and fought extremely well against the Soviets in 39 as well as later in 41-43.  I would consider them the elite of the Axis minor allies.

Are there more pics of the Pacific game available?  Can you post some and examples of play?  It would be good to start a section on the forum dedicated to the Pacific Game and one dedicated to the Europe game.

I mailed payment this morning to the address sent to my email. Hopefully you'll have by the end of the week.

I'm going to have to buy a second ping pong table, aren't I...?

Great, Bob!
We rarely play both Europe and Pacific at the same time - it is a lot to manage unless you have 5-6 players or more. . .and when we do we usually play the 1941 scenario - otherwise it is a little slow for the Pacific theater players for the first quarter of the game.  But, yes, when we put them together it is a 4'x12' map not counting room on the sides for battle boards and country charts. . .

The ironic thing is that I doubt I'll ever get to play it. The guy I used to game with has a lot of other stuff going on in his life now, so we don't game any more. I still wanted to get it though in case my gaming situation changes in the future. I didn't want to take a chance on waiting until I had people to game with, then try to order it sometime down the road only to find you guys were no longer selling it. If I have the files I can always print it all out when/if I have someone to game with.

BTW, what is your convention schedule looking like this year? Will you be at GenCon or Origins?

I would like to see markers that tell you what kinda of action your naval units took in the current turn. Something like cards saying "Amphiphious 2", " Tactical 4". Strategic Attack 6", or Strategic Move 8" cause sometimes its hard to remember. Is there an way you guys make anything like this happen?
Title: Re: Advanced Struggle for Europe (ASfE) is AVAILABLE!
Post by: John D. on March 13, 2015, 05:12:08 PM
Making stickers to put on a wooden cube - like I made for battle markers would be the easiest. Place the block next to the naval  units and place "face up" to whichever movement type occurred for the naval units...

Got an easier solution. Use an 8-sided die to keep track of each group of ships.  8)
