Guderian and team make short work of Poland. . .I did kill one of John's fighters, but casualties were light.

The BEF lands in France and we prepare our defenses.

The Germans mass an army in Austria - preparing for an early Balkan compaign.

They also launch a surprise Winter assault on Belgium, marching into the Ardennes.

Spring 1940 - The Germans slice through the BEF and on into Paris forcing an early French capitulation with light casualties.

U-boats prowling in the Atlantic

The Soviets win a costly Winter war with Finland not until the Spring thaw and also occupy the Baltic states.

In Summer 1940, the German charge through Yugoslavia and mass on the Greek border.

The Kriegsmarine sorties and finds refuge in port in Brittany.  (Putting ships in port make the immune from naval battles, but air attacks against them receive a bonus).  The Luftwaffe is massed along the Channel for a Battle of Britain and to protect their navy.

Cunningham and the British fleet evacuate some of the Greek army and reinforce it with an Indian division to hold Crete.  The Italiansare still neutral.

On the Russian Front, an assault on the Crimea is repulsed and the Germans are at the gates of Moscow and Leningrad in the North.

In the Med, Rommel falls back out of Egypt after a battle at Mersuh Matruh.

In the North Atlantic, the Kriegsmarine takes refuge in the Norwegian fjords and the British fleet tries to make it dificult for them to get back to the Baltic.

In Spring 1942, the British 8th Army advances in North Africa.  Field Marshal von Rundstedt takes the Crimea and Sevastopol and von Manstein advances across the Ukraine toward Stalingrad. Armyu Group North and the Finnish Army advance to isolate Leningrad while Zhukov defends Moscow from Army Group Center.

Meanwhile,  a small British and U.S. army lands on the beaches of Brittany against a weakly defended France.

Isn't that reaching a bit below the level of the game?

It is still a strategic level game.  The level you are talking about would be operational and below.

Yeah - the leaders play an important role in the concept test of this game and represent army, army group or fleet leaders currently.  There may be a role for some 'tactical' leaders as well - but right now we draw the line at the army commander

I love the detail on this map! Minor things like national flags to each indepent country, gives it just that little bit more. But the various terrain options are big eye catcher here, regarding the map!

Also the markers (don't know how to call them..) below each unit, are a nice addition. The same for goes for leaders.

I haven't posted here for a long time, but did follow the forum. However I had to make a comment here.
