Title: Panzergrenadiers across rivers

Do half of them roll on the attack just like regular infantry or are they treated as armor units and wait for the second round of the battle?   

Also, are they treated as regular infantry for transport rules?

No - they are penalized for attacking over rivers - just like tanks.  They are carried by transports just like tanks as well.
