Have the Soviet's already played their Spring 1942 turn yet?

This looks like a very good close game so far - no one has gotten a huge advantage over anyone else yet.

Please keep us posted on your progress. . . I can't take it  :'(, when is Origins  ;D?

We take it for granted that we were going to win and Germany and Japan was stupid for attacking the US.  ....

I agree, the history written since 1945 paints Allied victory as a sure thing.  I believe something short of unconditional surrender - peace with terms with the Axis was a real possibility had certain things turned out differently

Strategy Tips / Re: Any ideas on how to start U Boat production early?
« on: October 30, 2006, 02:40:26 AM »
I believe U-boat warfare against the UK is really important if the Germans are to win.  British production left alone just allows the Allies to get back onto the continent all the faster.

The Germans have to be smart about deploying their u-boats.  Sending them out piecemeal into heavily defended sea zones does not work.  The German surface fleet can be used to draw off convoy defenses as well - especially if the British have deployed part of their fleet to the Mediterranean.  It has to be a delicate dance. . . and a battle of attrition - sink production points faster than you lose u-boats.

Italy is not so much a problem as it is an opportunity!  ;D

I like the Italian collapse rules - but moving the entire Italian army off to Russia is a problem. . .  ???

U.S. submarines are key to victory in the Pacific.  Once the Japanese can't build hardly anything it is easy to push them back to the home islands.

Why not let planes go first per the rules?  That is the way we play and it is consistent with everything else.

I say Russia in general contributed the biggest mistakes - lack of a clear German strategy from the start, poor intelligence, failure to appreciate the situation in December, ill conceived Summer 1942 strategy and the same in 1943 - failure after failure that the quility of the army could not make up for.

cool - somebody was just posting on another thread that it would be cool to see France last until 1941 - they should tune into your game. . .if it gets that far!

very cool pics!

If Midway would have happenned differently, maybe the Japanese could have had a shot at invading Hawaii - but I don't think they had a snowballs chance of invading California and it really was not one of their strategic objectives to invade the US - they just wanted to establish a position that was unassailable by the US.

I think the most under-rated US general is not Patton (he may be over-rated) - I think Bradley, rather, was one of the best US generals of the war

One of the successful ways I have seen the Axis pull off a victory in the game is to pour most of the German Luftwaffe into the Med following the defeat of France - that usually keeps the British Navy out of the way and sea lanes clear to transport troops to North Africa for a push on Cario.

Could this have worked during the real war?  why not?

Interesting. . .

If Japan would have done a few (albeit major) things differently like protect their merchant fleet, establish army-navy cooperation, organize their war economy and equip their soldiers with modern weapons, realized their intelligence communications were compromised - could the Pacific War have ended differently?  Could the Japanese have fought the US to accepting some sort of negotiated peace?

I think it is possible - I mean after two atom bombs Japan still did not agree to an unconditional surrender (they kept the emperor). . .

I tend to agree - at least one u-boat a turn as early as possible keeps the Brits busy and off your back while you deal with the Middle East or Russia.  But I don't know if it is best to send them out into the Atlantic one at a time - maybe better to send them out in groups of 3-4 so the Brits can't hunt and kill your u-boats off piecemeal.
