Rules Questions & Clarifications / Re: Barbarossa Rules
« on: February 05, 2016, 05:44:18 AM »
Perhaps John's interpretation is most clear - all German ground and air units increase their combat value by 1 for the first round of combat (i.e. a German 3-4 infantry unit would hit on a 4 or less; a German 5 air-to-air ME109 would have a 6 air-to-air value; a German Stuka would have a bombing value of 7, etc.).  All Soviet units would be one less (a 2-3 infantry defends on a 2; a 3 air-to-air fighter would be 2 air-to-air for the first round, etc.)

Winter rules apply to the original 1939 at start Soviet borders - so they do not apply to vyborg, the Baltic states, Eastern Poland, etc.)

None - those Russians moved into the Carpathian Mountains in Autumn and established a huge Partisan army. . . we have not rooted them out yet, preferring instead to guard them like a giant POW camp.

Winter 1941

On the Russian Front, the Germans were able to blunt the Soviet Winter offensive and maintain their positions on most of the front.  Army Group Center managed to seize Vyazma and bring in reinforcements under Manstein.  In the South, Hoth is consolidating his Panzer Army South of Kharkov.

In the West, the Allies launch operation Torch - but limited to only Morocco.  The Vichy regime does not collapse and the Axis quickly reinforce Algeria in an effort to stop the allied offensive and prevent them from taking any more deep water ports in North Africa

Autumn 1941

The Germans divert their panzers to the North and the South in the Autumn of 1941 in order to support the encirclement of Leningrad and take Kiev to the South (how historical . . .).  The Germans manage to isolate Leningrad by taking Novgorod and in the South encircle and take Kiev in addition to establishing a beachhead over the Dnepr.  German paratroopers briefly seized Krasnodar and knocked the Crimea out of supply.  I n the Med, both Rommel and the British 8th army build up their reserves in Egypt.

OK - after a long Holiday break - getting back to the after action report:

Summer 1941

Barbarossa was finally launched in the Summer of 1941.  Army Group North smashed its way to the gates of Leningrad and Army Group Center, spearheaded by Guderian's panzer army made it to Smolensk.  In the South, the German offensive was a little less successful, failing to take Kiev in the mech phase and losing a significant number of mechanized units in the attempt.

In the Pacific, the war for China continues. . .

I don't believe there are any changed to the Allied Infantry file in the dropbox.  For some reason it was deleted, so I re-added it to the folder today.

We've made a lot of changes to the Pacific leaders over the last few months - I think we need to run through a few playtests to understand the impact and how we need to adjust or add new leaders.  Have you played a few Pacific games with the new leaders and identified the lack of late war leaders for the Japanese as a problem?

Only planes with a range of 2 may land on carriers - so the p-38 and p-51 would be prohibited.  Per the rules:

Quote
7.4 Aircraft carriers and movement
Carriers may carry fighter and tactical bomber air units (any air unit with a movement rating of 2). Some nationalities have restrictions on the type of air units that may land and take off from a carrier discussed below in the special units and nationality rules sections.

7.4.1 Both aircraft carriers and the air units they convey may both move tactically during the movement phase (i.e. a carrier moves 4 spaces, the air unit may then take off from the carrier and fly into combat with the anticipation of returning back to the aircraft carrier after combat).

7.4.2 Fighter and tactical bombers taking off from an aircraft carrier have a movement range of “1” instead of the usual range of “2” for these types of planes. Therefore, carrier planes can only attack adjacent sea zones or islands when taking off from an aircraft carrier.

Spring 1941

Due to the delays in France, the Germans have had to delay Barbarossa to the Summer - but at the end of Spring, the Armee Groups are in position and ready to launch their offensive on June 22nd.  In North Africa, Rommel's recon units have reached Mersa Matruh before withdrawing to Sidi Barrani.

Winter 1940

Luftwaffe bombing England in the Winter of 1940.  Geman U-boats establish bases along the Atlantic coast. In the Med, Rommel has established the Akrika Korps with the Italian fleet redeployed to the Aegean with heavy support from the Germans and Italian airforces.  The war of resistance continues in China.
