Using 88's as AA/Using AA as anti-armor
« on: November 12, 2006, 09:47:53 AM »
When an 88 is used as an AA gun, is it not an anti-armor unit for purposes of hit taking in that round of combat?

Does an AA gun become an eligible unit for an armor hit if it is used in an anti-armor role?

Just to make sure of something- you can switch back and forth from one role to the other (AA/AT) with these units each time a new combat round starts, correct?

You have interpretted the rules correctly - if the 88 is deployed as an AA gun - it is not an Anti-tank unit and can not be used as an armor casualty.  At the beginning of every combat round, the German play places his 88's in the 1 defense column (if it is an AA gun) or in the 4 defense column (if it is an AT gun).  The German player could change his 88 from one role to the other at the beginning of the next combat round.

What about the AA gun?

Quote
AA guns and 88’s may fire at ground units in the
normal ground combat phase as ground units instead of
deployed to fire during the anti-aircraft phase. AA guns
have a defense value of “1” and 88’s defend in ground
combat with a value of “4* or less”. (see below)

Does it become an anti-armor unit?

Does it hit attacking armor units and become eligible for armor hits from the attacker?

Or does it just become a normal front line ground unit which deals out general hits on a roll of "1"?

oops, sorry.  An AA gun is not an anti-tank unit (there is no * after its defensive combat value on the the combat chart ( i hope)  - so if it is deployed as a ground unit (not against planes) it just has a defensive value of "1" like a weak infantry unit.
