Allied Bomber escorts
« on: September 20, 2009, 02:36:47 PM »
I've devoted quite a bit to producing Bombers for the Allies.  Probably a mistake.  But it is fall 43 and I get to escort bombers next turn.

On p.13 of the rules:

>Tactical Air Unit Movement
Fighters, Stukas and Sturmoviks have a movement range of 2 and bombers/heavy bombers have a movement range of 3. Allied heavy bombers have a movement range of "4" when conducting strategic bombing missions (only). British and U.S. fighters have their movement range extended to 4 beginning Winter 1943-44 when escorting strategic bombing missions (only). In order to receive this extra movement, fighters must start in the same territory as at least one of the heavy bomber air units.
Fighters taking off from an aircraft carrier have a range of only 1 instead of the usual 2 movement range for fighters.<

Does it have to be a heavy bomber, IIRC the player sheets don't say that.  Could I increase the range of fighters to just 3 to escort a regular bomber, or must it be a superbomber?

Allied fighters may escort either medium or heavy bombers beginning in Winter 43.  Of course only the long range bombers can move 4 - medium bombers may only move 3.  So fighters escorting medium bombers can move up to 3 escorting them and fighters escorting heavy bombers may move up to 4.
