Game Design / Sweden
« on: August 25, 2014, 10:52:02 AM »
While Sweden was political neutral in ww2 What we do with them ?

Facts
- During the German invasion of the Soviet Union, Sweden allowed the Wehrmacht to use Swedish railways to transport (June–July 1941) the German 163rd Infantry Division along with howitzers, tanks and anti-aircraft weapons and associated ammunition, from Norway to Finland. German soldiers traveling on leave between Norway and Germany were allowed passage through Sweden — the so-called permittenttrafik.
(Maybe the railways Need to be updated for this)

- It also allowed the Allies to use Swedish airbases between 1944 and 1945. (Operation Doomsday - Liberation of Norway)

By the way you guys remember the very rare entry table from the first version of the game ? :)

Game Design / Map Changes Suggestions
« on: August 25, 2014, 10:21:45 AM »
Hello Mark & John.

I would like to suggest some changes to your beautiful map.

While i really love the new changes to the convoy zones.. i have on the other side mixed feelings about the sea zones.
I feel they were rushed.

Let me show you:

Operation Paukenschlag (Drumbeat)
The Germans send Uboats to the U.S Coast.
On the new map this is only possible from Brittany \ Lorient. Looking on a real map i don't see why this shouldn't also be possible from bay of biscay (there were other sub pens )
On the old map this is working, even with the new rules but on the newer map the US Coast has a "frontline" of sea zones to make this impossible.

Italian Submarines in the atlantic
While this is historical correct, it is no longer possible in the new map.
You can move out tactical.. have to reach a friend port ( Bay of Biscay would work) .. but you can't move back to italy through the straight of Gibraltar because that would be now 5 sea zones ( without the help of german merchant raiders)

So there were some options to suggest. (I prefer the second one)

- Allowing submarines not to move back but getting an out of supply marker when shooting.. so they have to go back for ammunition.
- Changing the sea zones around spain\portugal to make a tactical move from France to Mediterranean possible again (2 examples to choose from)
- Changing the rule that you can path the enemy straight with subs in the non-combat Phase without problems

Casablanca
That sea Zone is kinda odd. I would allow to move through (blue line)

Harbor Changes
I've sent John some Harbor changes / additions
Maybe you can look at it together.

Game Design / The middle East or the ever doomed VP-Table
« on: August 25, 2014, 09:49:03 AM »
Hey guys,

it's funny i think the VP-Table is always doomed when it comes to middle East.

Let me explain.

On the first map there were VP-Points on the Map in Basrah, Mosul & Bushire. The VP-Table was missing Basrah

On the new map there is only a VP Point in Kirkuk. The VP-Table is writing Mosul not Kirkuk.

Oilfields

While i have really no idea how much Oil was produced in the middle east during WW2 .. was there really so much difference between them and Baku ? (10 Oil Points)?
Looking on a actual map in iraq i also see oilfields in Basrah & Baghdad and other territories
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/shared/spl/hi/middle_east/02/iraq_key_maps/html/oil_fields.stm
But i really don't know which were use in ww2... do you guys know that?

But what i know is.. the reduction of the iraq Forces from 2 down to 1 is wrong.  1941 they had around 60,000 Soldiers into 4 divisions against the British(+50-60 aircrafts).
So in the game that would be either 2-4 divisions.

Suggest:

- Increase the Iraq forces from 1 up to 2-4 divisions. Up to you :)
- Changing the VP table again up to 105.  But moving the Victory Point from Kirkuk to Baghdad and the one that was removed to Damascus (Syria).

Game Design / German Mechanized Artillery "Hummel & others"
« on: August 24, 2014, 08:25:41 AM »
Why the Germans don't have the  Mechanized Artillery? Like the Hummel

First 8 Hummels entered service in March of 1943 followed by 46 in April.
Hummels had their debut during operation "Zitadelle (Citadel)" in the Summer of 1943, when some 100 were in battle
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bundesarchiv_Bild_101I-219-0596-25,_Russland-Mitte-S%C3%BCd,_Panzerhaubitze_%22Hummel%22.jpg

Self-propelled artillery

SdKfz 165 Hummel (713)
SdKfz 138/1 Grille I/II (383)
SdKfz 124 Wespe (676)
SdKfz 4/1 15 cm Panzerwerfer 42 auf Selbstfahrlafette "Maultier" (296)

Stats
Begin Production i would say Spring or  Summer 1942
Same - Stats like US and Britain
Max Build  1 or 2

Rules Questions & Clarifications / Russian Winter 1941
« on: August 17, 2014, 01:32:35 AM »
New Rulebook:
Quote
the first Winter turn that Germany is at war with Russia, all Axis units (Except Winterized units i.e., German and Italian Mountain Infantry and Finnish units) are considered out of supply during the mechanized movement phase. This applies to all German ground and air units in the 1939 borders of the Soviet Union.   Therefore, German units may not mech-move during the first Russian Winter (as they are out of supply).  Soviet units may move and attack – and when resolving combat, German (non-winterized) units receive a negative modifier to their defensive values for being out of supply.

Q: Does this include the Soviet-Nazi Border ? Eastern Poland , Riga, Estonia , and so on? Or only Territories before Turn 1?

Quote
Additionally, all Soviet units are considered mechanized for movement and combat during the first Russian winter (including artillery, air, infantry and armor).  Soviet non-Winterized units still receive the -1 combat modifier for attacking in the Winter, but essentially all Soviet units may move and attack during the Winter mechanized phase.

Q2: So you can really move all soviet troops in the first mechanized winter ?!? Without motorization and such?  :o Brutal *g*
Q3: Also all soviet units that were returned\retreated during normal combat Phase?
Q4: Why can't the soviets build more schock troops?

Game Design / Finland
« on: August 16, 2014, 01:33:40 AM »
I would suggest the following rule: Combining the old rules with the new rules

Finland becomes an Axis minor on the check for minor allies phase on the turn that all of Norway’s territories are Axis occupied or the turn after the Soviet Union and the Axis are at war.
While they were a German ally in WWII, Finland enjoyed a degree of autonomy from German control during the war.

To reflect this, when Finland becomes an Axis minor, the German player rolls a (half d6) + 5 and places it in Finland. The die result represents the number of "German" units that may be in Finland (including Vyborg) and trace supply through Finland.

German units greater than the die result may not occupy Finnish territory (including Vyborg) or trace supply through Finland.  If there is an excess of German units supplied via Finland at the conclusion of the non-combat movement phase, it creates a diplomatic challenge making all German units in Finland out of supply and no attacks may be launched by Finnish units or Axis units in or from Finnish territory (including Vyborg) until Leningrad falls to the Axis or if any Soviet Units enter the post Winter War territories.

Additionally, Finnish units may only operate adjacent to the 1939 Finnish-Soviet border (including Leningrad). If Leningrad falls to the Axis or if any Soviet units enter the post Winter War territories that make up Finland (any Finnish territory other than Vyborg), this restriction is lifted an any number of Axis units may enter Finland and Finnish units may operate outside of their adjacent territory restriction.

Germany had not only Mountain divisions in Finnland.

Like the (All together 6 or 7 divisions)
169. Infanterie-Division (Not Mountain)
Two Panzer divisions
The Luftwaffe landed its air divisions in Rovaniemi, Luonetjärvi and Utti.

Rules Questions & Clarifications / Airbase-Attacks & Mechanized Phase
« on: August 15, 2014, 10:29:21 PM »
Can planes that did a airbase attack, support adjacent battles in mechanized Phase?

Mark pointed out that planes that did a strategic attack, cannot support mechanized battles.. so i'm not sure about this one.
