Some pics below from a game John and I are currently playing. We played a couple days last week and will be wrapping it up later this month. We are just about to start the Spring 1944 turn. Builds from the Winter are out and on the board.
-
And here is the status of the Russian Front:

North America ready for the Spring 1944 turn
-
Mark- You're the German player, aren't you? ;)
You're weak in the South and will never get across the river in the North. So you! ;D
-
I'm on the defensive! Just trying to hold out a couple more turns! I need to stop the Russians from getting over the river and prevent Patton from taking Rome. . . as well as stop an invasion of Western Europe and prevent an airborne invasion of Greece. . .and perhaps stop a Russian offensive to take back Stalingrad. . .
-
Well - I'm glad you recognize this... :o

Good stuff boys! 8)

Well, John and I played a few more turns last week. The game continues. We are ready to start with Winter 1944/45 turn when we get back together. . .I think this game may go down to Summer 1945 - which will be cool regardless of who wins.
I'll post some pics shortly, but to give you an update on my objectives:
I need to stop the Russians from getting over the river: FAILED
and prevent Patton from taking Rome.: FAILED
as well as stop an invasion of Western Europe: FAILED
and prevent an airborne invasion of Greece: FAILED
and perhaps stop a Russian offensive to take back Stalingrad: FAILED
So - in the West, the allies landed in Bordeaux and have taken Paris and Marseilles. I still hold the channel ports, the Belgium and Alsace Lorraine.
Patton took Rome - The German defenses in the South are retreating to the Alps.
The Allies have pretty much liberated Greece and most of Yugoslavia. We hold a line on the Danube.
Stalingrad has been liberated as has the Crimea. The Germans still hold Kiev in the South.
The Panther line running from Riga to Minsk has fallen to repeated Soviet blows. The German front line has fallen back to East Prussia - Warsaw.
it is going to be close as the VP level continues to drop and our cities and armies continue to collapse. . .we hope to give the fuhrer a few more months of relaxation with Eva before he needs to go down into the bunker. . .

Harsh!
The "thin grey line" begins to fold up.
The issue for the Germans, in my mind, is that once you have taken most of Europe, you have to defend it. EVERYWHERE.
I will be running a small 1941 Europe game here at a small local Con at the beginning of November, and I still have CR-42's,MC-202's and P-51's to paint.
WHERE do you guys get the small stickers for the rondels? I have had some small luck painting Italian, German and British rondels, but there is no way I will able to do a passable US rondel. :-\
-
I actually just print the stickers on adhesive photo paper and stick them to the painted wood disks :)
-
;)
My apologies, I should have been clearer.
I am talking about the national markings on the wings of the planes. The paint jobs on the miniatures are gorgeous. I am hand painting my rondels (national markings) onto the wings. At this scale, the best I can do is a rough approximation.
Yours look perfect. Transfers? A shrinking machine to take the artist down to 6" tall?
Enquiring minds want to know...

Man. . .I am trying to remember, but pretty sure I got them here:

A friend of mine did all the painting and decal mounting. . .you need really good tweezers and eyes - they are tiny. . .

THE END IN EUROPE
John and I finished our epic 1939 Europe game on Sunday. The game ended in Summer of 1945 - it does not get much closer than that. . .
Here are the pics from the last 3 turns of the game. . .
Winter 1944-45
-
Spring 1945:
Soviets at the gates of Budapest and on the Oder. . .
Patton smashed through the Alpine Defenses and takes Bavaria. . .
In the West, the Germans still hold onto Flanders and Alsace-Lorraine. . .
-
End Summer of 1945
The Allies drove the Germans down to 4 VPs at the end of Summer and won the game. Montgomery drove Kesselring out of Flanders and joined with Patton's army coming out of Bavaria for a combined assault on the Ruhr.
Zhukov took Budapest and the German regime collapsed only hanging onto Berlin and a pocket of resistance around Metz in Alsace.
Overall it was a really good game and it was a blast to play one out to the very last turn to determine a winner.
Now I need to go and plot my revenge. . .
