Strategy Tips / Re: General Allied Strategy
« on: September 18, 2006, 06:15:48 AM »
You are correct about having a mixture of offensive & defensive weapons. The need for the logistic's trail to continue the fight after that initial contact is also vital. The Russian masses & the after the D-Day invasion resupply are crucial. Along with one of the Allied players reminding their side that VICTORY POINTS REALLY ARE IMPORTANT!!!! It may be awhile before I get the opportunity to show you how JAPAN gets invaded though! (:-)

This area has had and always will be the main point in any war or battle.  The side with the most bullets, the fastest resupply capability, and the ability to get reorganized quiickly will frequently be the survivor.  Your rules for being in supply and the strategic moving of materials touch this important area of war fighting. It's nice to see a few rules match what really needed to happen.

Wouldn't it be great to see France survive until the Spring of 41?

Rommel had the correct solution to stop the D-Day invasion. STOP THEM ON THE BEACH! Fortunately, the Germans made enough errors, one strategic & fatal error of NOT committing the resources because of the FUHRER'S great insight, & most importantly-a lot of our fathers & grandfathers were heroes & survivors some 60 years ago. This game allows the AXIS the ability to do the job without the FUHRER's great insight. So, the allies MUST have & MUST pump a continuous supply of material for several turns to have a successful D-Day invasion. Fortunately for us hindsight is always 20/20

Game Design / Re: The problem of Italy
« on: August 19, 2006, 08:30:25 AM »
There's no problem with Italy UNLESS Germany consistently provides ASSISTANCE.  The Afrika Corp and the Italian units lost out not because of their fighting prowess in the desert but in LOGISTICS!!!  NO REPLACEMENTS + NO FOOD +  NO FUEL + NO BULLETS = SURRENDER!!!! The Royal Navy needs to make the MED a British pond!!!

Thanks for running the game. Played the US and some Chinese on the Friday session. Had Japan on it's knees & clobbering time "INVASION" was quickly approaching. From what I saw of all 3 sessions, Friday was probably the closest win for the ALLIES.  Curse those victory points anyhow!!! If you do run 2 tables, try 1 for teaching new people with 2 sessions of 6 hours per day (9AM-3PM & 5PM-11PM) and a 2nd for the LONG haul game for the veteran players. THE 6 HOUR SESSSIONS SHOULD ALLOW FOR ABOUT 10 TURNS OR SO + INSTRUCTIONS & THAT SHOULD BE ENOUGH REPS TO GET A NEW PLAYER COMFORTABLE WITH THE GAME MECHANICS. Maybe even be interested enough to make a game purchase too! By the way, a special price to purchase the game at the CON was an excellent idea. ;D

A good option is to build US subs & really annoy Japanese shipping by hitting the shipping lanes  & thus reducing the Japanese spending power & when possible tag a transport when it's alone. Also, slowly & quietly build up & fortify the island locations containing a victory point marker. This keeps Japan broke & requires effort by the Japanese to obtain the victory points.  Don't give them anything away for free. The Japanese need to earn those victory points with blood, especially their own.

This sounds like something to be tried at GENCON?

Played this game on Thursday for awhile, a brief stint in between some other games on Friday & then the ALL day job on Saturday playing different ALLIED positions as people came & went. My die rolls on the 1st game on Saturday were amazing & it would have been interesting if Germany could have recovered from the high losses it suffered.  The 2nd game was the MARATHON, 11 AM - 2 AM and it impressed me enough to try another MARATHON or all day attendance at GENCON INDY.  Will probably try the Allied side again since we lost the MARATHON.

Strategy Tips / Chinese strategy
« on: July 14, 2006, 06:11:14 AM »
The best thing for the Chinese is patience with some early lend lease from US. The Chinese need just enough material available when Japan starts doing something else to step in & just be plain ANNOYING..

Strategy Tips / Re: Thoughts on Axis grand strategy

One item to look at would be 1 U-boat every turn or at a minimum every other turn.  The potential losses could negate any of the lend lease the US player may be doing for the UK.  I agree with the comment to send uboats out in packs and not singularly
