Subs suprise attack
« on: February 19, 2007, 03:41:02 AM »
Hey again :)

Today i want to talk about subs.

A) According the rules ,  if a sub attacks a lonely carrier with a figher on it. The fighter could eliminate the sub before the submarine can start their suprise attack.
That makes somehow no sense to me :P?

Shouldn't Sub have a suprise attack before aircrafts can hit them if there are no destroyers in battle?

B) Can a Sub reatreat from a strategic convoy mission after the end of the combat round?

C) Normally ships can't retreat to a zone where enemy surfarce ships are present
Since subs can move freely or stay in the zone shouldn't they also be able to retreat into every zone , even if there are enemy surface ships?

Thanks
Dominik :)

Hi Darkman

You have pointed out a few things that were not well defined, but I think have been addressed in posts over the course of the last year -

A) you are right - it does not make sense and makes subs more scary.  There is an optional rule in the current rulebook that addresses this - which is going to be made into a standard rule in the next release.  Sub attacks against naval units without destoyers preceeds air combat.

B)  Check out the thread from the February 3rd Hartford game in the after actions report section - this was discussed and needs to be spelled out clearly in the rulebook.  Subs DO get to retreat after making their strategic attacks and get themselves out of the convoy zone.

C) Yes - subs get to retreat or submerge anywhere - regardless of the presence of enemy naval units.  Note they don't inhibit movement or prevent retreats for enemy naval movement either.
