Supply through Vichy
« on: October 09, 2006, 09:58:35 AM »
The rules allow for the Axis to trace supply through Vichy controlled territories.

Can Italian units in North Africa trace supply through neutral Vichy territories even if the UK controls all the Med. sea zones?  Does the neutral status of the Vichy allow supplies to get through?

Hello Craig,
No, the neutral status of the Vichy does not allow supplies to get through.

The same rule applies to Vichy as everything else. They can not supply through Allied controlled waters. This is why Madagascar is usually immediately out of supply (and should not be counted toward Axis production) as soon as it turns Vichy (as it is surrounded by British controlled sea zones).

What is the status of Vichy France as soon as it is set up?  An Axis minor ally? A neutral country that happens to be cooperating with the Axis?

Vichy France seems to be a special case along the lines of Sweden when talking about neutral countries that send resources to Germany.

Why would the resource transfer be interrupted between the areas of the Vichy empire and the Axis countries as long as the WA isn't at war with Vichy France?

Please give a full clarification of the status of Vichy France and all applicable situations.

Well, I am back from my invasion of Crete. . .not much British resistance, but plenty of British tourists. . .

Now I get to catch up on a few discussions here!  First - it seems Vichy needs some clarification:

The way we have played (and needs to be made clear in the rules) is that Vichy is a "pro-German neutral".  Treat the Vichy units as immobile Axis units that just occupy their territories until attacked (at which point they are replaced by German units per the rules) and mark the Vichy territories with German control markers.  As long as the Vichy units and territories can trace supply back to Axis production centers they are considered "in supply" for combat and production point purposes.  Therefore, the Italian fleet needs to keep the Mediterranean sea lanes open for the Axis to reap the benefits of the pro-Axis vichy regime and production points in North Africa and the Middle East.

Is that clear?  If so, I will rephrase the rulebook to reflect it.

cheers,
Mark

What about when Italy is at war with the WA but the WA haven't attacked Vichy French territories?

Can the Italian NA territories trace supply through the neutral Vichy territories?

Even if the Med. sea zones are controlled by the UK?

It would seem that until the WA are at war with Vichy France the PP from the Vichy territories should be able to get through to Germany/Italy.  How can the WA stop the movement of a neutral's ships?

And if the PP can get through, then supplies should be able to flow across the Med. to the Vichy territories and then onto the Italians.

It does not matter if the Allies have attacked Vichy or not - treat them as immobile Axis units and axis territories that can't be reinforced by any other Axis from the start.  They have to trace supply through Italian owned sea zones. If the med sea zones are controlled by the Brits then the Axis can't get and use the Vichy NA production points (instead the vichy build cafes in Oran or something with them. . .)

Per the rules the Axis can trace supply through Vichy territories.
