Wondering if we can get 4-5 folks together to come to ConsimWorld Expo 2015 in Phoenix, AZ, June 20-26 this Summer. . . I am thinking of playing perhaps registering the game to play Saturday through Wednesday (June 20-24) which should give us plenty of time to play a full 1939 game. . .
If we can get 4 people to sign up, I'll register it. Here is a link to the con: http://expo.consimworld.com/ (http://expo.consimworld.com/)
-
I should be able to make it, Ill know for sure by the end of the week, it would be nice to meet you guys in person
-
:) Count me in.
-
Awesome - so one issue just came up. . .John can also come, but has a conflict in Boston on Sunday, June 21. So, we could either register and play at ConsimWorld from Monday-Friday (June 22-26) or Tuesday-Saturday (June 23-27). Can playing during that week work for you guys - or would that wreck it for you?
-
I can be there Monday and Tuesday and maybe Sunday too.
-
I have so much vacation time wracked up, I am not actually accruing any more.
I am extremely flexible about the times. I just MIGHT be there for the whole thing.

-
OK - I am registered. Please go and register on the ConsimWorld site so that we can lock the game in for space and players at the Con (space is limited and only game with a few confirmed players get the tables).
Here is the link: http://expo.consimworld.com/ (http://expo.consimworld.com/)
We will plan to play Tuesday, June 23 - Saturday, June 27th
-
Done! I'm ready!
-
;D Registered and all paid up.
-
Awesome - that makes 4 of us and I think we may have one more at least on the way. . .will be a good team game!
If we get 6 or more, we'll play the WW game and put both maps together
-
Paid and ready to go guys
-
Fantastic! That gives us 5 players signed up: That will be three Allies and two Axis for a Europe game - which will be a blast! There are still a couple maybes out there. . .am still hoping we might be able to do a WW game
-
We have 6 folks lined up to play at ConSimWorld this year - which achieves our WW game milestone! There is still definitely room for a couple more players though - so more are always welcome!
I will be arriving in Phoenix Monday evening and will set the game up that night. We will plan to play Tuesday morning through Friday evening which should give us plenty of time to play a full 1939 start WW game. I am going to request 8 tables. . .hopefully they will allow us to take up that much table space. The set-up will look something like this:
-
;D I will be in town on Saturday, and will be there for the whole Con.
-
Great! Get out of whatever you are playing by Monday night so we can get rolling! ;D
Do you have a preference on side / country / theater ?
-
I am a bit of an Axis-phile (inherent masochism, I think) but the simple truth is that I will enjoy playing just about anything.
-
So,
IF we play the full Europe / Pacific game, I would like to play the IJN.
If we do just Europe, I will happily play anything, with the exception of Russia. I did so poorly on my test play through, I feel I would doom the game to an early Axis victory.
;D
-
Ok - so Japan it is - as we are playing the full world game!
I understand the hesitation with Russia - it can be an emotional experience...
-
Japan may not have a whole lot to do on Tuesday (when they are really only at war with China) - so it will be a little slow out of the gates if that is ok.
While the rules are the same, the play in the Pacific is very different from Europe. It is a very delicate dance with naval units and logistics. . .It is also easy for the Japanese to get too caught up in China and not commit enough resources for the navy. . . Japan is really entertaining when you have two players (one of the army and one for the navy) - but I don't think we will have enough players for that.
3 weeks to go!
-
Mark,
The Pacific Game was my original purchase (what, 2-3 years ago?) so I am aware of the early game.
Truthfully, I think I would be more concerned about the US player being bored out of his socks.
My challenge will be to not over-commit to China, and build enough naval planes.
My last play through, Japan was crippled by not having enough replacement air (a problem they had in real life, I think)
;D
-
I think players will be:
1) East Front Axis
2) West Front Axis
3) Japan
4) Britain & Canada
5) France & US Europe
6) Soviet Union
7) China, US Pacific, (and maybe also Australia, India too)
I think the US Pacific player will have as much to do (if not more) than you will with Japan during the early game.
-
Good luck to you guys :-) I hope for an detailed Action Report!
-
Pictures Mark, pictures!!!!!!
Maybe I should ask John. 😜
-
Marcus is the pictures guy and pics you will have!
Looking forward to picking sides :)
Yoper - are you gonna make it?
-
I'll be taking plenty of pics. . . assuming I remember my camera. . .
I have to document John's inglorious and absolute defeat after all. . . ;D
-
Wolf -
I just gave you access to the Pacific game files on Dropbox. We will be playtesting a with a slightly altered map, leader values, 2-hit Japanese carriers, and at-start units that what you probably have been playing with. Check it out and let me know if you have any questions.

Sounds like Mark is already in his bunker...
-
:)
Thanks for the update. Comparing the maps, I saw minor changes to Guadalcanal and the Philippines.
And then, the big changes to Hawaii and Midway.
Makes more sense this way. Dang it! Going to have to reprint my map.
-
you may want to wait until after we play with it at the con. . .
Hawaii and the sea zones between Hawaii and the West Coast are probably the biggest changes.
1) I wanted the Allies to be able to invade Hawaii from the West Coast if it fell
2) I wanted the Japanese to be able to airbase attack the fighter based on Hawaii when they attack Pearl Harbor
Other changes include changing many of the islands to arid/desert (sand) for the smaller atolls rather than forest/jungle.
Some ports got moved around (like the Guadalcanal port space is now on the North side of the island). Should make the Solomon Sea even more of a battleground.
Added the additional territory for the Philippines. Wanted to make amphibious invasions here a little easier and have more of a potentially drawn out ground campaign.
We will see how all of it works - we played a couple games on this revised map and liked it so far.
-
Yes - very nice changes - tanks mean something on the arid islands...
-
Getting psyched for team Axis! We are gonna make this one helluva game at Consimworld!
-
We are indeed.
I have been busily planning Mark's many headaches in the Pacific. ;D
-
I don't doubt it - looking forward to seeing it in action!
-
;)
During the Saturday Last Call Door Prize giveaway, both Mark and John got called.
Dave and I, sitting there, did not.
My luck holds for the whole con...
-
You definitely get the 'best sportsmanship' award, Wolf. . .if I was consistently throwing dice like that - I know I would not have had the same great attitude through the whole game.
It felt somehow very Japanese though - Great plan, Carrier battle, odds slightly in your favor, and the results decisively lopsided. . .Coral Sea, Solomon Sea, Philippine Sea - every battle.
Look forward to doing it again sometime - next time, I will take the Japanese!
Mark
-
I second the "Best Sportsmanship Award" for Wolf. I think that was the most consistently awful/awesome dice throughout a multiday game I have ever witnessed...
It was entertaining - It was one of the few times of the entire convention that had a crowd of folks around a table cheering for one side or another!
Vengeance will be yours Wolf!
-
Here are the players from the ConSimWorld Expo 2015 Game:
L-R Standing: Charles (Mussolini), Lance (Britain Med), Mark (Eisenhower/Nimitz), Wolf (Tojo/Yamamoto)
Seated: John (German OB West), George (Britain NW Europe), Dave (German OB Ost), Ron (Stalin)
Not pictured: Dave Simmons (France & Britain in 39-40), and Jerry (?) (Chiang Kai-Shek)
-
;D
I have an entirely different plan in mind. I have already laid the ground work for my Vengeance!
Seriously, though, I have already been plotting.
-
Any plan of yours without Lance (dice roller) will be doomed. :) :) :) :)
-
Wolf - I seriously believe you...
I'm the same way...
Now I need revenge - in a positive, uplifting way.
-
:)
You identify mistakes you made...
You identify threats you underestimated...
You see new avenues of approach...
You devise new strategies based on your new understanding...
...and you want another crack at it.
Not crazy, but certainly obsessive.
:P
-
John looks the same, but what happened to you Mark?!?!? :o
Has John been wearing you out that much such that the gray is creeping in?
Actually, it looks quite distinguished. :D
-
Obsessive? I'm simply undiagnosed...
