Soviet Lend Lease Questions
« on: February 11, 2007, 06:25:56 AM »
Q: Soviet Far East Convoy- Can it be attacked by the Japanese before the USSR and Japan are at war?

Eric argued no based on the the fact that the USSR flag would be placed upon the PPs that are being sent in the convoy, not the US flag.

Q: Persian Convoy- Would it become inactive if the sea lanes around Africa and through the Pacific were cut off by Axis control?  (Would the same thing apply to the Chinese routes through Burma and across the Himalayas?)

Could it be argued that the Persian route could only be stopped by European Axis control of sea zones in the Indian Ocean, not Japanese control?  Or would Japanese control of sea zones stop the flow of Lend Lease?

Actually, while the Japanese can't attack the Far East Convoy, can they stop the flow of the Lend Lease by controlling the sea zones in between the US and the USSR?

If the logic is that the Lend Lease material is flowing on Soviet ships, then I can see that the Japanese (who are not at war with the USSR) couldn't interfere with the transit of the supplies.

Ok - All Soviet Lend Lease is brought in under the Soviet Flag so the Japanese can not affect it unless they declare war on the Soviets. Eric is correct.

We have been playing that lend lease can go through enemy controlled waters. You need to physically knock out the lend lease points with your units (unless the receiving ground area are taken (such as the ports or Northern Persia) or are knocked out of supply.

Actually the Pacifc aid to Russia was on American ships that were Soviet flagged.  The Japanese did not attack them because they were Soviet flagged and they did not want to risk war with Russia - so Eric is correct.

If the lend lease land territories are out of supply - the Allies can not transport lend lease through them - so if Persia is out of supply - the Soviet's can not get lend lease through that route.

Since sea zones can not be put out of supply, the only way to prevent lend lease like the Murmansk convoy is to elliminate the pp in the lend lease zone through strategic attacks or to occupy the port territories in Russia.

So the Persian Lend Lease to the USSR, the "Hump" Lend Lease to China, and the Burma Road Lend Lease routes can be interrupted by putting the route-specific circle territory out of supply.

That seemed to make sense to us.
